This page is intended to show you that
there are many musicians around Cornwall
and the world who make use of Kernewek in
their songs and compositions. There are
also a number of downloads (mp3) on this
page. However, if you want more mp3s, then
you can join the Cornish Language
Fellowship, and get access to a page with
a wider range of artists.
New mp3 on the members page is: 'Treusporthys'
by Keltyon Byw. It won the PanCeltic song
contest in 2004.

Many Cornish speakers will mention a
number of names of songwriters and groups
who were around in the 1970s. The foremost
were probably: BUCCA, BRIAN
WEBB, BRENDA WOOTON and RICHARD
GENDALL. All of these portrayed the
Cornish language through the medium of
folk music. Many others came along through
the Pan Celtic Festival: AN GOF, PHILIP
KNIGHT and RYB AN GWELLA.
The 1990s saw GRAHAM
SANDERCOCK release 'Poll Pri' and 'Y'n
Gwynn ha Du'. Cornwall also won the
PanCeltic Song Contest a number of times.
PHILIP KNIGHT ha FRUTYS DIFENNYS won in
1991 with 'Deus
yn-rag Dolli', followed a few years
later with WEST and the song 'An Arvor'.
CHRIS 'CADWUR' JAMES won the PanCeltic
heats in Cornwall in 1999, the year that
Pirate FM broadcast the whole contest on
air. The success continued into this
century with wins for NAKED
FEET, KELTYON BYW and KRENA.
There are many other groups who have
made music in Cornish and continue to do
so: SOWENA, DALLA, SKWARDYA,
THE WAY, GWENNO, RACHEL & COMMON
GROUND.
Much music is often found at Cornish
Language Weekends, Yeth an Werins and
other get-togethers. Some of the songs
include: 'Lamorna', 'Camborne Hill', 'Yv
Sider Yowann'. and 'Ow Avon Splann'.
Listen to this recording made at the
Cornish Language Weekend 1991. Here is
Graham Sandercock practicing this Brian
Webb song before the big concert the next
next day. LISTEN
One very good chance to hear Cornish
music and songs sung in Cornish is at
LOWENDER PERAN. More on this October
festival can be found on www.an-daras.com
Throughout the year, there are many
church services held in the Cornish
language where hymns are sung in Kernewek.
One of the longest running is the annual 9
Lessons and Carols in Cornish at St Ive
near Liskeard. Here is 'A
Sybwydhenn' sung by Matthew Oakes at
that service.
One man who was loyal to so many
Cornish events over the years was former
Grand Bard John Bolitho. He was frequently
heard singing Cornish language songs. For
your pleasure, for his memory, and with
thanks to Cas Davey for recording him,
here he is singing Bro
Goth Agan Tasow.
