Ruth Rendell speaks up for Cornish

Friday night of the 20th September in the Green Lawns Hotel in Falmouth was the first annual dinner of the Cornish Constitutional Convention. The guest speaker was Baroness Ruth Rendell. She was asked to be the first guest because she gave great encouragement to many who would like to see a Cornish Assembly when she made a speech in the House of Lords in London, calling for Cornwall to be given its chance to devolve. At the dinner, she not only repeated her call, but promissed to lay a question before the House of Lords about the official recognition on the Cornish Language. Despite the fact the news broke months ago that the language was about to be given its rightful place on the European Charter for Lesser Used Languages by government minister Nick Raynsford MP, still there is no official word. Ruth Rendell also wants to lay a separate question before the House to initiate a short debate on the possibility of a Cornish Assembly.
